Manual Therapy
A whopping 80% of American adults experience back pain sometime during their lives. Back pain is one of the most common – and most costly – ailments in our society. The cost of treating back problems, time lost from work, insurance, therapy and surgery runs into the billions of dollars every year.
When you have pain and immobility in the back and neck, you need help regaining freedom of movement and freedom from pain. We help by restoring a higher level of activity, strength and motion to your back, neck and life.
Our physical therapists in Lake Orion and Midland, Michigan have over two decades of combined experience. We use comprehensive hands-on techniques and proven modalities to treat back and neck pain caused by injury, illness and other conditions. By combining experienced care with our one-on-one, hands-on patient focus, we can help achieve better results for you. Our physical therapists will thoroughly evaluate your health and pain history.
We will check range of motion, flexibility, strength, balance, gait, posture and other points that may affect your pain experience and then create a customized treatment program. Some of the therapies and modalities we use at Orion Physical Therapy in Lake Orion and Active Orthopedics Physical Therapy in Midland, Michigan are:
Manual Therapy – This specialized form of therapy is delivered by the hands of a skilled physical therapist instead of a device. The goal of manual physical therapy is to place pressure on muscle and/or connective tissue and to mobilize/stabilize the joints in an effort to decrease pain caused by spasms, tension or joint dysfunction. Our facilities use a combination of osteopathic and orthopedic manual physical therapy (OMPT) techniques to help restore proper spinal alignment and postural muscle balance, leading to stabilization and/or increased joint mobility.
Lumbar spinal stabilization – This form of exercise is designed to strengthen muscles to support your spine and help prevent low back pain.
Electrical stimulation (TENS) – Electrical nerve and muscle stimulation methods may be used to treat pain and muscle spasms.
Therapeutic exercise – Many patients benefit from strength training, cardiovascular conditioning and other exercises to enhance flexibility and strength.
Ultrasound – This modality offers deep heating therapy for deep joint tissues and improves stretching and flexibility in connective tissue. It is particularly effective for repetitive-stress injuries and inflammation.
Spinal Traction – We use this treatment to regain normal length and alignment of involved structures or relieve pressure on nerves and spinal discs.
Because no two patients are the same, your specific manual back and neck pain treatment program may use one, two or several different therapies or modalities to relieve your pain and add flexibility and movement to your life.
We truly care about your safe, rapid recovery. Our physical therapists have helped thousands of people with spinal problems. There’s an excellent chance we can help you, too. Tell your doctor you prefer the most effective and compassionate care available in your area.
